search datafield search_string ((logical_operator) datafield search_string)
The command "search", the first datafield, and the first search_string are required. If a subsequent logical operator is used, another pair of datafield and search_string are required.
Allowed logical operations are AND (abbreviated && or &), OR (|| or |), and NOT (! or ~). If the words are used for these logical operations, THEY MUST APPEAR IN UPPER CASE. Any number of logical operations are allowed, and parentheses are allowed to force precedence.
Datafields are data field names for the reference format type for which you are looking. For example, Title_chapter will return only chapter references matching the search string. However, Title will match any type of title in the archive. Using the phrase all as the datafield will search all datafields in the archive.
Click the following for a list of allowed datafields for each reference type:
Search strings are phrases that you want searched. If you use the search command search author John the archive will return all references (of any format type) in which the phrase "John" appears anywhere in any of the author fields. So the archive will find Author3: John, Richard and Author1: Johnson, Christopher and Author2: Jingleheimer-Schmidt, John Jacob. If you wanted to receive just the first record, the best approach would be to specify search author John, R
You can also use regular expressions in place of search strings. This is most useful if you want to allow default characters to end a word. For example, the command search keyword transitiv will find references having the word transitive, intransitive, transitivity, and intransitivity in the keywords data field.
